Morocco’s former BCIJ chief passes away
RABAT – Former head of Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), Abdelhak El Khiame, who passed away on Tuesday at dawn in Casablanca at the age of 64.
El Khiame, led the BCIJ from its creation in 2015 until 2020 when Habboub Cherkaoui took over.
He had become an emblematic figure in the fight against terrorism in the North African Kingdom and a key player in Morocco's security cooperation with its foreign allies, particularly European countries.
El Khiame helped adopt Morocco’s “multidimensional strategy” based on socio-economic and religious aspects besides security to counter terrorism after a number of deadly attacks in the country since 2003.
