Morocco government keeps Daylight Saving Time
CASABLANCA - The government council adopted Draft Decree 2.18.855 today, moving Morocco to GMT+1 year-round only two days before the clock was set to go back one hour this weekend in the north African country.
The Ministry for the Reform of Administration and the Public Service announced Tuesday the return to GMT legal time which was scheduled in the early hours of October 28.
But Secretary General to the Government Mohamed Hajoui called yesterday for an exceptional meeting Friday morning of the government council to approve a draft decree on whether to keep the Daylight Saving Time.
The decree will enter into force on the date of its publication in the official gazette, which is expected to done before Sunday.
It seeks to maintain DST permanently to avoid the several changes during the year, including the period of Ramadan.
Moroccan schools on holiday from next Saturday will find new hours upon students’ return in a week.
The administration will also be affected by this change. New schedules for civil servants and other employees will be studied before being adopted in the coming months.
The last-minute decision will affect flight schedules on Sunday.
