Abu Dhabi launches Mother of the Nation initiative
ABU DHABI - Abu Dhabi has unveiled the Mother of the Nation Endowment for Orphans, a new initiative to provide sustainable funding for orphan care across the UAE. Launched under the patronage of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, it honours Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the Mother of the Nation.
The program, run by Awqaf Abu Dhabi, converts one-time donations into perpetual endowments that fund orphan programs nationwide. It aligns with the UAE's Year of Family, emphasizing social solidarity and long-term community development.
Endowment returns will cover tuition fees, educational supplies, healthcare, medication, living costs, and seasonal needs for beneficiaries.
Historical inspiration
The campaign draws from the humanitarian legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's Founding Father, who prioritized charity and sustainable giving. It also reflects Sheikha Fatima's lifelong advocacy for motherhood, childhood, and family welfare through organizations like the General Women’s Union.
Building on successes like Awqaf Abu Dhabi's "Life Endowment" campaign, which raised nearly Dh1 billion from over 200,000 donors, this effort promotes endowments as a tool for balanced societal growth.
The initiative includes family-oriented events in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain with cultural, educational, and recreational activities. These events boost awareness and fundraising, fostering widespread participation in supporting orphans.
By ensuring continuous aid, the endowment aims to secure brighter futures for vulnerable children while strengthening UAE's global reputation for humanitarian leadership.
