Death of individual after fall from BNPJ 4th floor in Casablanca

The Prosecutor General at the Casablanca Court of Appeal says that the results of the medical autopsy performed on the body of the individual who jumped from a fourth-floor window at the headquarters of the National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) in Casablanca showed that the multiple injuries sustained by the deceased are consistent with the position of someone throwing their body from a window.

CASABLANCA — The Moroccan King’s Prosecutor General at the Casablanca Court of Appeal announced that the results of the medical autopsy performed on the body of the individual who jumped from a fourth-floor window at the headquarters of the National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) in Casablanca showed that the multiple injuries sustained by the deceased are consistent with the position of someone throwing their body from a window.

In a press release, the Prosecutor General explained that the results of the autopsy, conducted by a tripartite medical committee, also revealed that the death resulted from complications due to multiple contusions and fractures to the skull, facial bones, ribs, and femur, along with the presence of meningeal hemorrhage.

According to the release, preliminary investigations showed that the deceased was the subject of a judicial inquiry in an investigation office located on the fourth floor of the National Brigade headquarters. It noted that while the officer in charge of the investigation was about to execute the Public Prosecution's instructions to place him under police custody and record the procedures in the register provided for this purpose, the individual pretended to stand up, headed directly for a side window overlooking the building's interior courtyard, leaned his upper body outward, and threw himself from the window.

The statement continued, noting that inspections carried out at the scene revealed that a portion of a plastic strip from the window frame had been torn away. It was also found that the individual first struck an "Inox" (stainless steel) fence in the ground-floor courtyard, resulting in the warping of several parts of the fence, before hitting the basement level. Bloodstains were also observed at the point of impact.

The same source indicated that on Wednesday evening, a person under judicial investigation jumped from a fourth-floor window at the BNPJ headquarters in Casablanca. This resulted in serious injuries that required his urgent transfer to the hospital, where he received necessary medical care; however, he passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The report noted that "as soon as the Public Prosecution was notified of the incident, it issued instructions to subject the deceased's body to a medical autopsy entrusted to a tripartite medical committee composed of forensic specialists." Instructions were also given to the Prefectural Service of the Judicial Police in Casablanca to open a judicial investigation to determine the circumstances and details of the incident.
