Gulf business events soar as ticket sales jump 121%

Thematically, the fastest growth remains concentrated in technology and AI, crypto and Web3, sectors that are attracting regulatory clarity and regional investment.

DUBAI – Business events in the Gulf are driving a transformative surge in the region’s corporate travel market, with ticket sales rising by 121 percent over the past three years, according to joint research from Tumodo and Platinumlist.

The MENA business travel market is projected to reach 270.8 billion dollars by 2030, with conferences, exhibitions and MICE tourism emerging as a structural pillar of the Gulf economy.

Tumodo and Platinumlist data reveal that business events have become one of the fastest-growing segments in the Gulf’s experience economy within just two years, and the GCC event management market is forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 9 percent between 2025 and 2033.

Event-related trips are now commanding a premium, costing 25 to 40 percent more than standard corporate travel.

Tumodo’s internal analysis shows that despite airfares falling 12 percent and hotel rates rising only 2 percent, costs are pushed higher by premium hotel bookings, early reservation requirements and additional services. Corporate event bookings have grown 7.2 percent, visa support 15 percent, and transfers 11 percent.

Andrew Baturin, Chief Marketing Officer at Tumodo, said, “Companies favour compact, high-impact one- to three-day trips, yet MICE events extend stays to three to five days as delegates anchor networking, client meetings and bleisure around fixed conference dates.”

For major Gulf conferences, up to 90 to 95 percent of attendees now travel from outside the host country, often from other GCC markets, effectively turning business events into regional hubs rather than domestic-only gatherings, according to Platinumlist.

This shift has increased the importance of seamless travel, multi-city itineraries and friction-free digital ticketing. Attendees are now evaluating tickets through a strict return-on-investment lens, balancing travel and access costs against potential deals, partnerships and career opportunities.

Platinumlist data highlights growing use of networking tools and event-dedicated apps that allow participants to build profiles and schedule meetings in advance, transforming conferences into tangible pipelines for partnerships and business deals.

Cosmin Ivan, Chief Executive Officer at Platinumlist, said: “Several years ago, business events were very occasional. Today, our data indicates 120 percent growth in business event shows and a huge market capacity. The growth is driven both by flagship conferences and by organic expansion into workshops, niche summits and professional meetups.”

Thematically, the fastest growth remains concentrated in technology and AI, crypto and Web3, sectors that are attracting regulatory clarity and regional investment. Early trends also show rising demand for events focused on leadership development, personal growth, wellness and women’s empowerment.

As the market matures, businesses are increasingly investing in talent development, leadership training and long-term human capital. Looking ahead to 2026, business events in the Gulf are expected to evolve from passive attendance to curated participation, with delegates prioritising interactive formats, workshops and structured networking sessions, while technology ensures practical takeaways and stronger professional connections.
