UAE possessing robust munitions stockpile to protect population

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates the UAE’s commitment to the safety and security of its citizens and residents.

ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates possesses a sufficiently large and resilient stockpile of munitions to maintain continuous air defence interceptions over extended periods in order to protect its population, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday.

In a strongly worded official statement which was posted on X, the ministry said “the UAE possesses diverse, integrated and multi-layered air defence systems capable of countering a full spectrum of aerial threats with high efficiency.”

“These long, medium and short-term systems provide comprehensive protection of the nation's airspace. The UAE also maintains a robust strategy stockpile of munitions, ensuring sustained interception and response capabilities over extended periods, while preserving full operational readiness to safeguard national security and sovereignty.”

The reassurance comes as the UAE continues to face sporadic Iranian missile and drone attacks following the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on February 28. Multiple waves of projectiles have been intercepted over Emirati airspace in recent days, with air defence batteries successfully neutralising incoming threats without causing casualties on the ground.

Advanced defence architecture

The UAE operates one of the most sophisticated multi-layered air and missile defence networks in the region, combining American-made Patriot PAC-3 and THAAD systems with French, Russian, and domestically developed technologies. Senior defence officials have previously confirmed that the country maintains strategic reserves far exceeding normal operational requirements precisely for scenarios involving prolonged conflict.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised that these stocks have been carefully built up over years through close partnerships with key allies and domestic industrial capabilities, ensuring the country can sustain high-tempo defensive operations without immediate resupply concerns.

Message of Calm and Readiness

The statement was widely interpreted as a deliberate message of calm to residents and businesses in the UAE while simultaneously serving as a deterrent to any further aggression. It stressed that all necessary measures are in place to protect civilians, critical infrastructure, and economic assets.

The announcement follows similar reassurances from other Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, amid the current regional escalation. In Abu Dhabi and Dubai, daily life continues largely uninterrupted, with residents reporting normal operations at airports, ports, and commercial centres despite occasional air defence activations.

The UAE has strongly condemned Iran’s attacks on Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan, describing them as “unacceptable violations of sovereignty.” At the same time, Emirati diplomacy has quietly supported international efforts to prevent further escalation while maintaining its longstanding security partnership with the United States.

Defence analysts note that Tuesday’s statement is significant because it publicly addresses one of the most critical factors in modern air defence campaigns: ammunition sustainability.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the UAE’s commitment to the safety and security of its citizens and residents, while calling for de-escalation and respect for international law.
