Saudi LEAP tech event pushed to August due to Middle East Conflict

RIYADH – Organisers of LEAP, Saudi Arabia's flagship global technology conference and one of the world's largest tech gatherings, officially rescheduled the 2026 edition from its original April dates to late August due to the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran and widespread regional instability.

The event, previously set for April 13–16 at the Riyadh Exhibition & Convention Centre (RECC) in Malham, will now take place from August 31 to September 3.

The updated timeline was confirmed on the official LEAP website, which now prominently lists the new dates under the theme "Into New Worlds," signaling a shift in planning amid security and logistical concerns.

The decision follows a pattern of disruptions across the Middle East events sector triggered by the conflict that erupted on February 28. Airspace closures, travel advisories, heightened security risks, and uncertainty surrounding regional stability have forced multiple high-profile gatherings to postpone or cancel. Notable examples include the cancellation of Formula 1 races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the rescheduling of Informa's Middle East Energy conference in Dubai from April to September, and the postponement of other major business and tech events in the Gulf.

Industry sources indicate that LEAP organizers had already secured backup venue availability in the September–December window as a contingency. The move to August aligns with efforts to avoid the peak of spring travel disruptions while preserving the event's momentum as a key platform for AI, fintech, smart cities, sustainability, and emerging technologies.

LEAP has grown rapidly since its inception, drawing over 200,000 attendees in recent editions, featuring thousands of exhibitors, hundreds of startups, and high-profile speakers. It serves as a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 ambitions to position the Kingdom as a global tech and innovation hub. The conference typically generates billions in investment announcements and fosters partnerships between international tech giants and regional players.

The postponement reflects broader challenges for the region's business events landscape. With Iranian retaliatory strikes affecting multiple Arab states, including Saudi Arabia's neighbors, organizers have prioritized attendee safety, reliable travel access, and operational feasibility.
