Mauritania seeks stronger ties with UAE as Ghazouani visits Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI – Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani held talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a working visit to the United Arab Emirates, with both sides pledging to deepen cooperation in security, energy and economic development.
The leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in economic and renewable energy sectors, and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing sustainable growth in both countries, according to state media.
They also reviewed regional developments, including the impact of the war involving Iran on maritime security, energy supplies and the global economy.
Ghazouani reiterated Mauritania’s condemnation of recent Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and other Gulf countries, describing them as violations of sovereignty and international norms that undermine regional stability.
He also praised the UAE’s response, highlighting what he called the effectiveness of its measures to safeguard security and protect civilians and infrastructure.
The visit follows a series of contacts between the two leaders in recent months focused on strengthening political and security coordination.
Mauritania last week expressed solidarity with the UAE after authorities dismantled a suspected militant cell, commending the country’s security services and reaffirming its opposition to terrorism.
Relations between the UAE and Mauritania have expanded steadily in recent years, with cooperation spanning agriculture, energy, transport and cultural sectors. Emirati investments and development financing have played a key role in Mauritania’s infrastructure and economic projects.
Officials say the partnership reflects broader efforts by both countries to enhance regional stability and economic resilience amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
