Morocco busts drug trafficking ring

Security forces arrest 14 individuals suspected of involvement in a criminal network active in the trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

RABAT – Morocco’s security forces arrested on Thursday 14 individuals suspected of involvement in a criminal network active in the trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

Acting on precise information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), The security operation was carried out by the Anti-Gang Squad under the Tetouan Security Directorate in the rural area of "Bab Taza," on the outskirts of Chefchaouen.

The suspects were caught red-handed in possession of and trafficking drugs.

Subsequent search and seizure operations resulted in the discovery of 10.5 kilograms of cocaine and 82 kilograms of chira (cannabis resin), as well as a sum of 860,000 dirhams suspected to be proceeds from this criminal activity.

The search led to the seizure of 1,054 bottles of alcoholic beverages, an assortment of bladed weapons, electronic scales, forged license plates, and a light vehicle suspected of being used to facilitate these criminal acts.

Identification procedures through the National Security database revealed that one of the suspects is the subject of multiple nationwide search warrants for his suspected involvement in similar cases related to the trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

The suspects have been placed under judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office to determine the potential further reaches of this criminal network and to uncover all criminal acts attributed to the individuals involved.
